In addition to the official tasks undertaken by the committee, which are
often behind the scenes and not especially ‘glamorous’, GVEG has also
undertaken many events of a more member-active nature. We have had four
general meetings a year, usually with guest speakers (listed below), purely
social gatherings, and working bees. Those working bees have centred around
clean-ups, woody weed clearing, tree planting and seed collection, and there
have also been field trips of various kinds, all open to members, and displays
at the Shepparton Show and various other public days. GVEG also contributes a
monthly column to the Shepparton News outlining its position on various
environmental matters, and provides guest speakers to various bodies, and
attends environmental conferences. If nothing else, the group has certainly
been busy since Barbara Leavesley ‘let the genie out of the bottle’ in 1990.
