Valley Environment Group welcomes the announcement of a Victorian
Environment Assessment Council (VEAC) study into River Red Gum
forests and wetlands in northern Victoria .We also wish to
congratulate the government on its decision to expand the
boundaries of the study area to encompass all of the riverine red
gum forests and associated floodplains along the entire length of
the River Murray. The revised boundaries make much more sense
ecologically. We also believe that the larger study area will
provide better opportunities for balanced decision-making. As part

The newly
elected Victorian Labour government has ‘done a Kennett’ in
overriding the main findings of an independent panel convened to
decide the placement of a major bypass road, a coalition of
environment groups said today. The government has announced that
it doesn’t accept the main recommendation of the panel set up to
decide the final route for the bypass of Shepparton, that it be
