26th January, 1999Thank you for the Goonies

Well, welcome to my first ever column for anything at all. I'm your host zen, it's nice to see you could make it *smiles*.

"Get on with it", I hear you say. Well okay, but I should tell you, I don't have much to say, so I'll resort to blabing on about myself for a while.

I'm a movie fan... a BIG movie fan. There isn't much I like better than absorbing myself in a Steven Spielberg film, with your typical buttered popcorn in one hand, a frozen coke in the other, your teenage noisey lot four rows behind you (though I am that annoying teenager at times *grins*), a ticket stub in my pocket and the previews just finishing.

I'm a big Spielberg fan, I think he's the greatest, his ability to go and make movies like E.T and the Goonies, then come along several years later BAM! Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. Not to forget greats like Jaws, any of the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park (I purposefuly didn't mention Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, but we won't go there, thats another column and another day).

Yeah, there are other great directors out there like James Cameron and Kevin Smith, but none of those guys can compare to Spielberg. Okay, every single Titanic fan just went... "that is so not true", but come on think about it... Titanic is one movie..and if I had to choose between Titanic and the Goonies, the Goonies would win hands down. Can Leonardo DiCaprio do the Truffle Shuffle? I think not! *chuckle*

I've grown up with Spielberg. E.T. opened my eyes to the skys above, Jaws gave me nightmares, The Goonies gave me a sense of adventure, Jurassic Park amazed me (so much that I spent $20 seeing it 4 times at the cinema), Schindler's List made me want to throw up and Saving Private Ryan made me cry (so did E.T but we won't go there).

So, if I ever meet the great Mr Spielberg I'd say "Thank you for the Goonies... but hey...what's with the octopus?"

Octopus? I hear you mummer, well I'm not going to explain it... I'm going to leave you in suspence... so you'll wait for the sequel...
